Evans Named to Commission on USA’s 250th Anniversary

February 25, 2019

Speaker Nancy Pelosi appointed Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) to the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, which is developing nationwide plans for the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

"Philadelphia and Pennsylvania were central to the founding of our country. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were written here, laying the groundwork for greater expansions of freedom in later years. Philadelphia served as the nation's capital several times, including during much of the American Revolution, the Articles of Confederation era and 10 years shortly after the Constitution took effect, from 1790 to 1800. America started here, and I am happy to serve on this commission that will commemorate this historic anniversary," Evans said.

The 250th anniversary will be observed in July 2026, and Evans expects Philadelphia to be central to the celebrations.

Evans represents Northwest and West Philadelphia and parts of North, South and Center City Philadelphia, home to many of the historic sites associated with the nation's founding, such as Independence Hall and the Betsy Ross House, as well as the Liberty Bell Pavilion and the National Constitution Center.
