I always say, “Food Policy is Foreign Policy.” When we expand and increase access to our food supply we build stronger neighborhoods. The desire to ensure everyone in our cities and towns has access to fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables is not an easy task but when we are able to do this effectively the positive impact it has on our schools, our economy and our neighborhoods is immeasurable.

While we have come a long way in our fight for equality, the fight continues. As my friend, colleague, and personal hero John Lewis said, “Ours is not the struggle of one day, one week, or one year. Ours is not the struggle of one judicial appointment or presidential term. Ours is the struggle of a lifetime, or maybe even many lifetimes, and each one of us in every generation must do our part.”

Science is clear: climate change is real and poses a present danger that threatens the health of our communities, our infrastructure, and our economy. And these threats disproportionately impact low-income communities and communities of color, including in Philadelphia.

Having started my career as an educator, I wholeheartedly understand the importance of access to high-quality education for all- from childhood to adulthood. I believe that when we invest in the education of our students, we invest in the future of our workforce and our communities.

In Congress, I’m proudly working to put families first. This means fighting to make child care more affordable, ensuring every American has access to paid family and medical leave, pushing for a foster care system that supports all children and families, working to expand the Child Tax Credit, and more.

I have always said “Food is Medicine.” Ensuring everyone in our community has access to fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables is not an easy task, but it can and will have an immeasurably positive impact on our schools, our economy, and our neighborhoods.

Everyone has a right to affordable and accessible health care. That’s why, since coming to Congress, I have fought alongside my Democratic colleagues to defend, strengthen, and expand the Affordable Care Act, Medicare, and Medicaid.

I am a firm believer that housing is an essential human right! Everyone deserves access to safe, accessible, affordable housing. And building this housing and keeping other housing in good condition is key to creating and maintaining livable communities.

I am a strong supporter of comprehensive immigration reform. I believe in an immigration reform system that keeps families united and develops a path to citizenship.
