Social Security & Seniors
Social Security is an earned benefit! It's firmly established as a right and assurance American taxpayers are entitled to.
While Republicans in the White House and Congress are trying to dismantle this system, nearly 70 million Americans rely on, I’m fighting back!
I know we must not only defend Social Security and Social Security insurance payments but also the necessary infrastructure to ensure the Social Security Administration is accessible to all. Any cuts to its workforce and budget will cause a cut to this critical service, impacting beneficiaries in Philadelphia and beyond. That’s why I’ve co-sponsored legislation to protect access to benefits such as the Protecting Americans’ Social Security Data Act and the Keeping Our Field Offices Open Act.
I have also introduced the Claws Off Social Security Act, to protect struggling seniors from President Trump’s new drastic clawback policy. This bill would cap clawbacks at 10% of monthly benefits so people don’t have to choose between food, rent and medicine!
As a member of the powerful Ways and Means Committee, which oversees Social Security, besides defending this earned benefit, I know we must strengthen and improve the system so it meets the needs of all beneficiaries. This means increasing the cost-of-living adjustment, so it properly reflects the inflation seniors are actually experiencing, ending the disability benefit cliff, and scrapping the cap to ensure millionaires and billionaires pay their fair share into the system.
