American Rescue Plan Signed into Law! Federal Grants Seminars Next Week

I'm very pleased to report that President Biden has signed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan into law today. I was proud to vote for it yesterday in the House because I believe it will deliver much-needed help to end the pandemic and pull many Philadelphians out of the economic hole caused by the Covid recession. This includes a new round of $1,400 stimulus payments to finish the job of delivering $2,000 in stimulus checks. I believe this new law will also be a huge down payment on a promise President Biden and I made to "build back better."

Here are two summaries of the new law:

Because the new law is so wide-ranging, I will be providing details on key parts of it over the coming weeks. Watch your inbox for more information!

Federal Grants Seminars: Next week, my office will hold two online seminars about federal grants that are available to businesses and nonprofits. The seminars will be on Tuesday and Thursday, and you can learn more about them or RSVP for the Tuesday one here. Both events will be on my Facebook page, and you should be able to watch either one whether or not you are a Facebook member.

Progress on other issues:

  • I voted this week for two bills that would reduce gun violenceuniversal background checks for gun buyers, and closing the Charleston loophole that has allowed more than 75,000 people to get guns even though they're not legally allowed to own them. One of them was the white supremacist shooter who murdered nine African Americans in a Charleston church in 2015. I urge the new Senate to pass both of these bills!
  • I also recently co-sponsored the House version of a "wealth tax" bill, co-led by fellow Philadelphia Congressman Brendan Boyle, that could help fund needs like child care and repairs to our schools, housing, transit and other infrastructure priorities.
