I am pleased that President Joe Biden has taken action quickly to bring about change since his Wednesday swearing-in. He had already proposed a $1.9 trillion Covid relief and economic rescue plan that I believe is big and bold, which is what I have been calling for. You can read more about it by clicking here.

This week, President Biden released a plan to beat Covid-19 – click here to learn more – and he signed 17 executive orders and actions Wednesday and another 10 on Thursday. You can see a summary and links to many of them byclicking here.

These actions include priorities I have pushed for or supported, such as:

  • Extending the eviction and foreclosure moratorium to March 31
  • Extending the pause on federal student loan payments and collections and keeping the interest rate at 0%
  • Invoking the Defense Production Act to step up production of vaccines and personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Combating discrimination in or by federal agencies based on sexual orientation or gender identity (I also support the Equality Act, which would extend these protections to non-federal workplaces as well as housing and public accommodations.)
  • Reversing the Trump travel ban that targeted primarily Muslim countries
  • Ending what President Biden and I believe was harsh and extreme immigration enforcement
  • Extending protection from deportation for Liberians in the U.S.

President Biden is expected to sign additional executive orders today dealing with the economy, such as expanding SNAP (food aid), helping more people get their stimulus payments and making clear that workers who decline to return to working conditions that could expose them to the coronavirus should be eligible for unemployment insurance.

Saturday: Vaccines for Veterans, and Opportunity Fair for Students and Families
