As we all work to cope with the effects of the Covid-19 outbreak, I'm pleased to share some good news: $30 million in federal funding is coming to Philadelphia to revitalize the Sharswood-Blumberg neighborhood, a goal I have long pursued.

Much of the $30 million in federal funding will be used to preserve affordable housing in Sharswood by building 1,200 homes for low-income residents. This grant will also rehabilitate housing for neighborhood residents who don't live in Philadelphia Housing Authority buildings, helping them to stay in the community for years to come. The grant will also fund services and programs for community residents, such as case management for returning residents and new or expanded programs to help them.

The federal funding will serve as a catalyst for the wider revitalization, leveraging over $225 million in investment. Plans include the redevelopment of the Ridge Avenue commercial corridor. I worked diligently with the city government to aid the Philadelphia Housing Authority's application for this competitive grant – just one of four awarded nationwide.
