Students & Families: Deadline Is Next Week for West Point, Naval, Air Force & Merchant Marine Academy Nominations
I have extended the deadline to Wednesday, Nov. 24 for students in the 3rd Congressional District to apply for a nomination to one of the nation's five service academies, which include the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY; the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD; the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, CO; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, NY. (The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, New London, CT, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment.)
I strongly urge any student interested in a nomination to get started NOW, because you'll need to have three letters of recommendation and pull together other information as well. Don't wait: Click here to see what you'll need to apply. (For the application form itself, click here.)
If you know a student who might be interested, please forward this email! I also invite you to share this link on social media.
Update on Build Back Better Act
I'm pleased to report that the Build Back Better Act, which I support, is expected to pass the House as soon as this week. This would come shortly after President Biden signed into law a landmark infrastructure bill, which I voted for, that is estimated to create millions of jobs and make long-overdue repairs to the nation's roads, bridges, transit, water and sewer systems.
I believe the Build Back Better Act would be a historic investment in priorities like child care and affordable housing. It would also be a historic investment in fighting climate change and would continue the Biden expansion of the Child Tax Credit that I voted for, which is on track to cut child poverty in half. I hope to have good news to report about this bill in the near future.
