Why I SUPPORT an Impeachment Inquiry

In light of recent news, I want to let you know why I strongly support starting an impeachment inquiry of the president of the United States, a position I have held since 2017.

In my view, he and his administration continue to obstruct and stonewall all attempts by Congress to seek information and testimony from witnesses about the Mueller investigation and whether the executive branch is carrying out its duty to faithfully execute the nation's laws.

An example of this is when former White House Counsel Don McGahn defied a congressional subpoena from the House Judiciary Committee to testify about the Mueller Report. And that was just a few days ago!

Like I always say, Congress is a co-equal branch of government and we have a constitutional duty to do oversight of the executive branch!

I first voted for impeachment of the president in 2017, because I believed he engaged in conduct deserving of removal from public office -- such as his lack of decision-making skills, firing then-FBI Director James B. Comey, and admitting his motives for firing Comey in an interview.

My concerns have only increased since then, and I will vote for an impeachment inquiry if a resolution is brought to the House floor.

While I'm a staunch supporter of an impeachment inquiry of the president, the majority party, House Democrats, is also advancing legislation to make a positive difference for Philadelphians, such as bills that would protect your health care and help more people access affordable health care -- including prescription drugs, significant gun law reforms and my bill to help victims of gun violence, as well as legislation to restore and protect voting rights and to make it easier to vote, and so much more.

I believe it's not an either-or choice -- that Congress can both handle an impeachment inquiry and also work on legislation that would improve people's daily lives.

Sincerely,
