Rep. Evans statement on Anti-Semitic Acts in Northeast Philadelphia

February 27, 2017
Press Release

Washington, D.C.-- Over the weekend, cowardly human beings vandalized the Mount Carmel Cemetery, a Jewish cemetery in Northeast Philadelphia just a week after a similar act of vandalism in St. Louis, Missouri.

Today, just days after this act of hatred and Anti-Semitism in our city, a bomb threat was reported at the Perelman Jewish Day School (Stern Center) and the Kaiserman Jewish Community Center (JCC) in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania.

I am glad to hear that everyone at the JCC and Perelman Day School were able to evacuate and take shelter safely. These acts of hate against Jewish community centers across the nation are something we as a nation cannot simply turn a blind eye to. I am grateful that the Pennsylvania State Police are working hard to hold those who have committed these acts of fear and intimidation accountable.

As your Representative for the Second Congressional District of Pennsylvania I am proud to represent such a diverse District that accepts all people and who will not back down in the face of intolerance. We stand together united as a community that will not tolerate hate crimes or Anti-Semitism of any kind.
