Democratic House Will Protect Health Care, Act on Infrastructure, Exercise Oversight of Trump

November 7, 2018

Congressman Dwight Evans (D-PA-2nd) welcomed what the voters' decision to place Democrats in control of the U.S. House of Representatives will mean for Philadelphia and the nation.

"First of all, health care will be protected. Coverage for more than 5 million Pennsylvanians who have pre-existing conditions will be protected. This means a two-year break from legislative efforts to repeal the protections of the Affordable Care Act. This also means that Medicaid expansion will be protected, which is so important because Governor Tom Wolf has used it to allow more than 700,000 Pennsylvanians to get coverage.

"We'll also be serious about tackling our nation's massive infrastructure problems, both to fund and repair our public transit, bridges and roads, and our water and sewer systems – and to create badly needed, good-paying jobs.

"And we'll exercise oversight of President Trump and the executive branch. The Constitution calls for checks and balances, and we intend to deliver."
