Evans Begins New Term After Major Progress in 2021-22

Will Defend Recent Gains, Look for Opportunities in Closely Divided House
WASHINGTON (Jan. 13, 2023) – As Congressman Dwight Evans (D-PA-3rd) begins a new term in office representing Philadelphia communities, he's looking to defend major progress made in the last two years – and build on it where possible.
"In 2021 and 2022, Democrats in Congress together with President Biden brought our economy back from recession and greatly reduced the Covid threat with the American Rescue Plan and other actions, and passed other landmark new laws like the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and the first major federal gun-safety law in nearly 30 years," Evans said.
"While the House of Representatives has changed from Democratic to Republican control, the margin is again narrow – just five seats out of 435. I've served in both the majority and minority, and I'm already looking for opportunities to make progress for the people of Philadelphia and the nation."
In the last Congress, Evans secured two rounds of federal funding totaling $22.9 million for 22 community projects in the 3rd Congressional District, which includes Northwest and West Philadelphia and parts of North, South, Southwest and Center City Philadelphia. He also strongly supported new funding to fight gun violence and "poverty-busting" gains in a bipartisan spending package that passed last month, which will keep the government open through Sept. 30.
"I can again work with members of both parties on legislation like the next five-year Farm Bill that will affect food policy for every American, a bill that's traditionally bipartisan – and also stand with President Biden and fellow Democrats to defend vital programs like Social Security and Medicare, which some Republicans are already making clear they want to cut," Evans said.
During Evans' first six years in Congress, his office has helped to return to or save more than $25 million for Philadelphians from federal agencies such as the IRS, Social Security Administration and Department of Veterans Affairs. Evans' Northwest Philadelphia office is located at 7174 Ogontz Ave.; phone 215-276-0340. Last fall, he opened a second district office, located at 1310 Point Breeze Ave., phone 215-254-3400.
