Evans Bills to Provide Small Business Owners with Resources Moves One Step Closer to Becoming Law
This week, Congressman Dwight Evans (Philadelphia and Montgomery County) joined with Chairman of the House Small Business Committee, Rep. Steve Chabot (R-OH) and Ranking Member of the House Small Business Committee, Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY) to consider a strong package of bills in the Small Business Committee.
Many small businesses in Pennsylvania and in our neighborhoods nationwide lack awareness and adequate education about critical intellectual property protections. In an effort to help bridge this gap, last year Congressman Evans introduced HR 2655 and HR 3170 two bills that provide our small business owners and entrepreneurs with the tools and resources they need to be successful in our ever changing economy.
This week’s Small Business Meeting is another tool in our tool box; and another vital opportunity to illustrate how our government is working to help our nation’s small businesses—who are the heartbeat of our commercial corridors and true backbone of our economy.
“Our small business owners and entrepreneurs are the engines that drive people to live, grow and succeed in our neighborhoods. We know that our small business community faces increasing cyber threats in our ever changing and evolving global economy,” said Congressman Dwight Evans. “I am proud to stand with my colleagues to see this vital, bipartisan legislation that equips our small business owners and entrepreneurs with the resources they need to keep their businesses safe, secure and protected become one step closer to become law. I will continue to set forth legislation that allows our small businesses and SBDC’s to continue to thrive and prosper. I look forward to working with my colleagues to see these important bills enacted into law.”
“On our Committee, Congressman Evans has been one of our most thoughtful and passionate champions for small businesses,” said Rep. Nydia M. Velázquez (D-NY), the Ranking Member of the Small Business Committee. “His bills that were approved in Committee this week will tackle two serious challenges affecting entrepreneurs – protection of intellectual property and cybersecurity. These measures will mean small businesses in Pennsylvania and throughout the nation will be able to focus on what they do best – creating good paying jobs. I thank Congressman Evans for his leadership, congratulate him on the Committee approving these bills and look forward to advancing them further toward enactment.”
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is the proud home to nearly 1 million small businesses. According to the Pennsylvania Small Business Development Center (SBDC), our small businesses employ 2.4 million workers.
Congressman Evans is the Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access of the House Small Business Committee.
