Evans Congratulates Biden and Harris; Welcomes their steady leadership, hails history made by first woman of color to become VP-elect

PHILADELPHIA (Nov. 7, 2020) – Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) issued the following statement:
"I am overjoyed to call Joe Biden and Kamala Harris our president-elect and vice president-elect! America needs their steady, experienced leadership, especially as we deal with the Covid-19 pandemic and the deep recession it has caused.
"And it is a historic day when we can call a woman of color our vice president-elect! This is a huge step forward for all Americans. I was pleased to welcome them both to Philadelphia and I look forward to working with them and their administration. They know how crucial the votes of Philadelphians and Pennsylvanians have been in making this happen.
"I know they are committed to protecting and expanding on the Affordable Care Act, which will be more vital than ever during this pandemic. I know they will be great partners with the returning House Democratic majority on that and other priorities such as voting reform, policing reform, addressing the affordable housing crisis that existed even before the pandemic, and much more.
"Pennsylvanians have been fortunate to have Governor Tom Wolf, Secretary of State Kathy Boockvar, Attorney General Josh Shapiro and dedicated local elections officials - including everyone who has worked so hard to count every vote – looking out for their constitutionally guaranteed right to vote.
"The people have spoken, and now we have a great opportunity to move forward together and make much-needed progress for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and America."
Evans serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees taxes, trade, Social Security, Medicare and much of the U.S. health-care system, and as vice chair of the House Small Business Committee. He represents Pennsylvania's 3rd Congressional District, which includes Northwest and West Philadelphia and parts of North, South, Southwest and Center City Philadelphia.
