Evans Welcomes Tentative Deal to End Shutdown: ‘Pay These Workers Now!’

January 25, 2019

Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) issued the following statement on the tentative deal to end the 35-day government shutdown:

"This is a positive thing. This is a win for the workers.

"It should NOT have taken 35 days and there should NOT be another shutdown.

"My understanding is the federal workers will get their back pay quickly, after the bill is signed into law.

"I'm fine with debating the most effective methods of border security AFTER the government is reopened. I would also note that there are other pressing issues besides border security and immigration reform, such as gun violence, health care, reducing poverty, and fixing our schools and other infrastructure.

"My bottom line is: Pay these workers now!"
