Fighting Trump/Musk Abuses; 🚨“IRS” Texts Are Scams

E-Newsletter

Many Philadelphians have contacted me asking what’s being done to fight abuses by the Trump administration, including actions by the “DOGE” team led by a billionaire Trump donor - unelected, unconfirmed Elon Musk. So my office has created a web page to keep you updated on what I, my Democratic colleagues, and outside organizations are doing to fight backClick here to see for yourself.

We’ve also posted a list of resources for Philadelphians who are affected by the Trump administration’s policies.

Many constituents have also asked what they can do. House ethics rules limit what I can share using official resources, but one important thing you can do is stay informed and updated, both by reading my newsletter and following my social media pages on YoutubeFacebookTwitterInstagramThreads and Bluesky.

Text Messages from “IRS” Are FAKE

My office has been receiving reports of text messages supposedly from the IRS and claiming the person may be eligible for an economic impact payment. The IRS has recently reported that these are scams. The IRS advises that if you get one of these texts, don’t click links in it or provide any response. You can learn more about “IRS” scams by clicking here.

Last month, I reported in this newsletter on actual news from the IRS about these payments. It involved people who missed out on one or more of the 2021 Economic Impact Payments (EIP), also known as stimulus payments. The IRS announced it planned to issue automatic payments of up to $1,400 by late January 2025 to about 1 million eligible people who did not claim the Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns.

If you qualify and already filed a 2021 federal tax return, you should not need to do anything else. Taxpayers who haven’t filed 2021 tax returns might be eligible as well, but they face an April 15, 2025, deadline to file their returns to claim the credit and any other refund they might be owed. Click here to learn more!

My office can help with federal issues. Federal concerns and agencies that my offices can help with include passports, immigration, the Postal Service, IRS, Social Security and the Department of Veterans Affairs. You can contact my offices at 215-276-0340 (Northwest Philadelphia) or 215-254-3400 (Point Breeze) or fill out this form that legally authorizes us to look into your case.
