I OPPOSE Trump’s Iran Strikes; Senate Vote Could Be Friday

As I continue to monitor the Middle East situation, I wanted to share my public statement from Sunday:

“Even if he had obtained the required legal authority from Congress, President Trump's reckless military action against Iran would still be a bad idea. The president's actions (Saturday night) only put American lives, at home and abroad, at greater risk.

“What has been needed and is still needed in this situation is diplomacy and de-escalation. The Republican majorities in the House and Senate must allow immediate votes on exercising our constitutional authority to stop any more unchecked, rash military actions and prevent another endless war.”

Because of differences in House and Senate rules, the Senate is likely to vote first on a war-powers resolution, possibly as soon as this Friday. If you would like to contact Pennsylvania’s two senators, you can click here for their contact information.

I’m also fighting for you on issues here at home. In my opinion, Senate Republicans have made the “Big Ugly” Trump budget bill even worse than when it narrowly passed the House (I voted NO). I am continuing to keep up public pressure against the bill, with its tax cuts for the richest and cuts to Medicaid and SNAP food aid. You can click here to see my recent video about the risks to our hospitals in Philadelphia and throughout Pennsylvania. I also recommend this recent op-ed piece from the Inquirer: “All of us are Medicaid beneficiaries — whether we realize it or not.”
