I Voted NO on ‘Blank Check’ for Musk & Trump

President Trump thinks Americans should “shut up about egg prices.”

Last week, I voted NO on a six-month, so-called “continuing resolution” that I believe amounts to a blank check for Elon Musk and Donald Trump to continue their mass firings and funding freezes. I have voted for imperfect funding bills in the past to keep the government open, but I believe that what Musk and Trump have been doing amounts to sweeping partial government shutdowns already. I also opposed the bill’s cuts to veterans’ and housing programs. You can click here to read more about what’s in the legislation.

I’m proud that House Democrats largely held the line against this bill. I called repeatedly and publicly for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats to do the same. I wanted safeguards to ensure that Trump would actually deliver all of the funding in the bill, instead of what he has been doing with already-passed funding laws. Unfortunately, Schumer and eight other Senate Democrats chose to let the bill pass.

While the funding bill is now law, I believe the next big battle in Congress will be over a Republican budget blueprint that sets up $880 billion of cuts to Medicaid, $230 billion in cuts to SNAP food aid, and a tax cut for the wealthiest that roughly equals those two cuts put together. That version of the resolution passed the House, but has not passed the Senate – yet.

There is still time for senators to make a difference on that budget blueprint. If you are interested in contacting Pennsylvania’s senators, you can click here for their contact information.

Working for you

I led over 20 congressional colleagues in urging the Trump administration to restore funding for navigators who help people find the best health coverage for them under the Affordable Care Act, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) or Medicaid.

I’m co-sponsoring legislation to protect probationary federal workers so they can continue to do the important work of the American people.

●  I joined with more than 100 colleagues to demand answers regarding recent actions taken by the Trump Administration to gut enforcement of the Fair Housing Act of 1968 and other housing-related civil rights laws.
