I’m AGAINST the War; ‘Claim Your Money’ Can Mean 5 Weeks of 🛒Groceries
- My office’s deadlines are March 6 and 10 for Community Project Funding applications, depending on which appropriations bill is involved.
- If you saw President Trump promoting his “TrumpRx” website recently, buyer beware: The site only offers discounts on a limited number of name-brand drugs, and you can often find lower prices on other websites and/or by using generic equivalents. Click here to learn more!
- Good news for veterans: Following pushback from veterans and Democratic members of Congress, the Trump administration has backed down on a change that would have rewritten how VA disability ratings are determined.
I’m AGAINST the War
This week, I’ll be voting YES on a war powers resolution that would stop the war. I believe Congress must assert its constitutional authority and rein in President Trump and his administration. In my view, Trump and his team don’t have persuasive or consistent answers to two vital questions about this war, now in its third day:
- Why now?
The Iranian regime has been awful for 47 years. President Obama negotiated a deal to keep Iran from having nuclear weapons, but Trump ended it. And on Saturday, Trump began bombing Iran even though it appearsthere was NO imminent threat to the United States.
- Now what?
Between Trump and his administration, we have heard that the war is for regime change, or that it isn’t, that he won’t rule out putting our troops on the ground inside Iran, and more. To me, their claims seem to change every few hours.
The Constitution requires any president to get approval from Congress before going to war. I will be voting to end this war. And I pray for the safety of our troops and the many civilians whose lives are also at risk.
Tariff Refunds NOW!
After losing in the Supreme Court, the Trump-Vance administration is trying to figure how to keep up to $175 BILLION in illegal tariff-taxes for two years or longer! I believe the refunds should happen NOW, and I am co-sponsoring a bill that would make it happen. As the Wall Street Journal explained recently, the Trump-Vance administration repeatedly told courts that tariff refunds would be available, automatic and assured.
‘Claim Your Money’ Can Mean 5 Weeks of Groceries
I urge everyone to check out the city’s “Claim Your Money, Philly!” website. You may qualify for thousands of dollars through the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit, or both. That could pay for five weeks’ worth of groceries, a monthly rent payment, or more. This tax season, don’t leave money on the table!
Honoring African American trailblazers in Philadelphia
During Black History Month, I introduced two pieces of legislation to honor African American trailblazers in Philadelphia. I was proud to honor both Dr. Constance E. Clayton, the first female and first African American superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia; and the leaders and activists who took part in the 14-year fight to desegregate Girard College, including Cecil B. Moore and Raymond Pace Alexander. In our nation’s 250th anniversary year, Philadelphia continues to be at the heart of Black history in the United States.
