Measles Vaccine in Philly; Data Centers; Accessible Housing Tax-Credit Bill
Measles vaccine in Philadelphia With the recent tragic news of two measles-related deaths in Pennsylvania, I want to emphasize that vaccines, like the MMR vaccine that prevents measles, are safe, effective, and save lives. I encourage all Philadelphians to talk to your health care provider and ensure you and your family are up to date on your vaccines. Trump EPA on the side of data centers, not communities Americans overwhelmingly oppose data centers being built in their neighborhoods, yet the Trump-Vance Administration is trying to make it harder for communities to raise concerns or even learn about this construction! The Trump EPA is pushing a proposal that would prevent residents from raising concerns about — or even learning about — data centers before permits are approved and construction starts. I oppose this proposal. Congressional Republicans have been clear that the “big beautiful” tax cut law they passed last year was intended to expand investment in “hyperscale data centers.” (I voted NO on it.) And the House-passed version spelled that out as well. And just last week, Trump himself attacked people who oppose data centers in their communities, claiming they want to stay “backwards and poor.” I’ve reintroduced an accessible housing tax-credit bill Last month, I reintroduced the bipartisan Visitable Inclusive Tax Credits for Accessible Living (VITAL) Act. It would strengthen the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) to expand the supply of affordable, accessible housing for older adults and people with disabilities. About 26 percent of people in the United States have a disability, yet less than 6 percent of the national housing supply is designed to be accessible at even a basic level. This bill would change that by expanding low-income housing tax credits to make affordable housing more accessible for seniors and people with disabilities.
