Saturday: Service Academy Day
Attention Philadelphia high school students and their parents and guardians: You’re invited to my annual Service Academy Day this Saturday, Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Community College of Philadelphia, Pavilion Building (2nd Floor, Klein Cube), 1700 Spring Garden St., Philadelphia, PA 19130.

If you’re interested in serving your country, a U.S. service academy may be for you. To RSVP or learn more, click here. Representatives have been invited from all five service academies and the Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board.

I believe this is an important constituent service, and I’ve been proud to provide it throughout my ten years in Congress. Students who are chosen by a service academy have the opportunity to receive a college education at no cost. I also believe it’s important to make sure that students from Northwest and West Philadelphia as well as North, South, Southwest and Center City Philadelphia have the same access to these opportunities as young people in other districts.

In addition, I have worked to ensure diversity in our nation’s service academies, which provide much of the leadership for our military. I believe this is more important than ever because diverse military leadership could be more likely to resist illegal orders, provide alternative perspectives, and push back on unwise orders from civilian leaders.

You can vote today!

If you don’t want to wait nearly five weeks to vote, I have good news: You can request, complete and return a ballot all in one stop at Philadelphia’s neighborhood election offices, any day of the week. Or if you have completed your mail ballot and want to return it to an official city ballot drop box instead of using the mail, several official ballot drop boxes are available throughout the city.

If you need to register to vote or to change your registration (for example, due to a change of name or address), Pennsylvania’s deadline is Oct. 19. You can click here to check your voter registration status.

For more information on voting in Philadelphia, click here or call the county elections board at 215-686-3469 or the voter registration office at 215-686-1591.
