New bill would cap Trump’s Social Security ‘clawbacks’
I’m introducing a bill to protect struggling seniors from drastic “clawback” payments ordered by the Trump administration. It’s called the “Claws Off Social Security” Act.
Under a new Trump administration policy, seniors who received an overpayment because of someone else’s mistake are seeing up to their entire checks withheld, forcing some to choose between basics like food, rent and medicine. My bill would cap these “clawbacks” at a reasonable 10 percent of monthly benefits, restoring a policy the Biden administration put in place last year.
Organizations endorsing the bill include the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, Justice in Aging, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, and Social Security Works. You can learn more about the bill by clicking here.
