(NOTE: Due to House rules, this e-newsletter went only to people who had opted in to receive updates during the 60 days before primary or general elections for the House. If you missed it and would like to be on the opt-in list, click here.)
You may think it’s too late to claim a stimulus payment from the height of the Covid pandemic, but for nearly 40,000 Pennsylvanians, there IS still time, and their average refund could be over $1,000. The IRS is encouraging eligible people to claim their 2020 Recovery Rebate Credit before the May 17, 2024, deadline. The IRS commissioner said, “We encourage people to review their files and start gathering records now, so they don’t run the risk of missing the May deadline.” Click here to learn more.
You may qualify for free help with filing your federal tax return, whether that’s for 2020, 2023 or both. Click here to learn more and to find locations near you. Filing a tax return is important even if you think don’t owe money – the city of Philadelphia estimates the average refund is $2,200 for people who qualify for initiatives like the Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Tax Credit.

In case you missed it: State of the District report
If you haven’t read my 10-pageState of the District report, you cancheck it out here. It includes details on the more than $16.6 million I secured for 14 Philadelphia community projects in fiscal year 2023, including federal funding for affordable housing, access to fresh food, mental health support, and job training.
It also includes details on the $16.8 million my offices returned to or saved for Philadelphians in 2023 in cases involving federal agencies. The largest portion of that – $7.4 million – was IRS cases.
My office can help with federal issues. During my first seven years in Congress, my office has helped to return to or save more than $41 million for Philadelphians from federal agencies such as the IRS, Social Security Administration and Department of Veterans Affairs. We also help constituents with other federal concerns such as U.S. Postal Service issues and immigration or passport issues.
If you’re seeking help with a federal agency or a federal concern, you can contact my offices at 215-276-0340 (Northwest Philadelphia) or 215-254-3400 (Point Breeze) or fill out this form that legally authorizes us to look into your case.
