Trump Just Raised Your Taxes; 💸Don’t Leave Money on the Table!
President Trump’s tariffs announcement on Wednesday amounts to the largest tax increase on Americans in at least 30 years.I OPPOSE it!
He’s declaring “emergencies” to go around the constitutional requirement that Congress sets tariffs and other taxes. Like most Democrats in Congress, I want Congress to reclaim the tariff power and stop what I believe are massive abuses of this authority.
So far, most Republicans in Congress have voted to let Trump keep slapping these import taxes on food, clothing, cars and other things you buy. A study says an average family could see an increase of anywhere from $2,700 to $3,400 in yearly costs.
I voted against a Republican maneuver that has prevented a vote in the House of Representatives on overturning these Trump tax increases. The Senate narrowly voted Wednesday to overturn Trump’s tariffs on our largest trading partner, Canada, and I believe the House would do the same if Republican leadership would allow a vote. As I serve on the House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees trade, I will continue looking for opportunities to hold votes on the Trump tariffs.
When tariffs are used in a targeted, well-thought-out way, they can be a useful tool in the toolbox. But I believe the across-the-board, constantly changing tariffs Trump has been imposing will just damage our economy and drive up costs for working Americans. Even many products like cars, clothes, electronics and more that are labeled “Made in the USA” are subjected to Trump’s tariffs.
(Remember when Trump promised to bring down prices on Day One of his current term in office? Today is Day 74.)

Scandal: Texting Military Attack Plans
I have publicly called for resignations and an independent investigation of the “Signalgate” scandal where senior Trump administration officials were using a commercial app to share military attack plans. What’s Next?
This Senate vote is expected to take placethis weekend: I believe the next big battle in Congress will be over a Republican budget blueprint that sets up $880 billion of cuts to Medicaid, $230 billion in cuts to SNAP food aid, and a tax cut for the wealthiest that roughly equals those two cuts put together. That version of the resolution passed the House, but has not passed the Senate – yet.
So there is still time for senators to make a difference on that budget blueprint. If you are interested in contacting Pennsylvania’s senators, you can click here for their contact information.
