Philadelphia schools recently issued a facilities report showing that the average student attends a school built in the year Brooklyn Dodger great Jackie Robinson stunned a Yankee Stadium crowd by stealing home during Game 1 of the World Series.

That was 1955.

This means our children go to the same aged, rundown K-12 facilities considered functionally obsolete by national standards a generation ago, when their parents attended the same dilapidated buildings.

WASHINGTON, D.C.--Yesterday, Congressman Dwight Evans and Congressman Donald McEachin introduced the Rehabilitation of Historic Schools Act of 2017, HR 922, in the 115th Congress.

HR 922 would amend the Internal Revenue Code to allow rehabilitation expenditures for a qualified public educational facility (defined as a school facility which is part of a public elementary or secondary school and is owned by a private, for-profit corporation pursuant to a public-private agreement) to qualify for the rehabilitation tax credit.

The United States always has been, and always will be a strong ally of Israel. I believe and hope that we can use that relationship to foster a meaningful peace agreement that brings about an end to terrorism and violent disputes over territory in Israel and Palestine. I am convinced that the U.S. and Israel must always work together, even when they may disagree, to establish a just and lasting peace. With that in mind, I believe that House Resolution 11 does not advance this goal in a meaningful way.
