I always say, “Food Policy is Foreign Policy.” When we expand and increase access to our food supply we build stronger neighborhoods. The desire to ensure everyone in our cities and towns has access to fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables is not an easy task but when we are able to do this effectively the positive impact it has on our schools, our economy and our neighborhoods is immeasurable.

PHILADELPHIA (May 23, 2025) – Congressman Dwight Evans (D-PA-3) is co-leading a bill (H.R. 3506) to re-authorize the Healthy Food Financing Initiative (HFFI) with Congresswoman Shontel Brown (OH-11), vice ranking member of the House Agriculture Committee.
Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) announced that Feb. 14 is the deadline to apply for $1.8 million for grants to help bring grocery stores to "food desert" communities.
The grants will be provided through the Healthy Food Financing Initiative, a federal program that is modeled on a Pennsylvania initiative that Evans championed as a state lawmaker. He successfully worked to renew funding for the federal program in the five-year farm bill that became law last year.

Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-02) is reminding government agencies and organizations that Jan. 2 is the deadline to apply for Summer EBT projects to test innovative strategies for keeping children from going hungry during the summer.
"Grants ranging from $500,000 to $5 million will be available on a competitive basis. If your government agency or organization is interested in applying, now is the time to act," said Evans, who serves on the House Agriculture Committee and fought to protect anti-hunger programs in the new 5-year federal farm bill.
Congressman Dwight Evans (D-PA-2nd) delivered the following remarks in the House of Representatives chamber today in support of the Farm Bill (H.R. 2), which the House then passed:
"Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
"I chose to be a member of the Agriculture Committee because this committee has jurisdiction over some of the most crucial issues facing our communities, and that is food and nutrition.
In cooperation with the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), the National Urban League launched a multi-city Jobs and Justice tour. During the tour, the National Urban League and its local affiliates will lead a series of town hall discussions about policies that will increase the upward social mobility of African-American families, and help ensure equal protection under the law. The town hall discussions will also focus on how African-Americans can use their voice and vote to change their communities and the country.
Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-02) a Member of the Subcommittee on Nutrition in the House Agriculture Committee, released the following statement denouncing the Farm Bill passage:
"I am disappointed that the GOP Leadership had the unmitigated gall to bring this highly partisan and warped bill to the House Floor for a second vote, posing as the Farm Bill. Nothing has changed in the bill since the last time it came to the Floor, so you have to wonder what was offered or said to those Members who voted No just a month ago to change their votes this time.
Today, Congressman Dwight Evans (Philadelphia and Montgomery County) participated in the House Agriculture Committee Farm Bill 2018 Markup and forcefully urged the GOP majority to end their assault on the poor, elderly, veterans, and children and protect the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly referred to as SNAP.
