Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) announced he will vote today for a bipartisan spending bill that would prevent another government shutdown if President Trump signs it into law.
"I met with many federal employees from Philadelphia and the region who were forced to work without pay or were furloughed without pay for 35 days during the recent shutdown. That was unfair to them and the people they serve. I am against a new shutdown. The people deserve a functioning government, and the workers deserve to get paid for their work!" Evans said.

Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) has been named as vice chair of the House Small Business Committee. He will also serve on the Small Business Subcommittee on Investigations, Oversight and Regulations.
Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) announced that Feb. 14 is the deadline to apply for $1.8 million for grants to help bring grocery stores to "food desert" communities.
The grants will be provided through the Healthy Food Financing Initiative, a federal program that is modeled on a Pennsylvania initiative that Evans championed as a state lawmaker. He successfully worked to renew funding for the federal program in the five-year farm bill that became law last year.
Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) issued the following statement on the tentative deal to end the 35-day government shutdown:
"This is a positive thing. This is a win for the workers.
"It should NOT have taken 35 days and there should NOT be another shutdown.
"My understanding is the federal workers will get their back pay quickly, after the bill is signed into law.
Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) has been tapped for two key subcommittees within the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees major issues including taxes, trade, Social Security and Medicare. He will serve on the Health Subcommittee and the Worker and Family Support Subcommittee.

Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) was sworn in today as part of the new Democratic-majority House of Representatives, and he plans to introduce four bills in the coming days to help Philadelphians.
"The new Democratic House is starting to work right away for the people. We'll be passing bills to end the government shutdown and to restore voting rights and reform our democracy. And that's just on day one," Evans said.
