Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) has been named to the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, which oversees major issues including taxes, trade, Social Security and Medicare. The recommendation was made by the House Democratic Steering Committee.
Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-03) was sworn in today as part of the new Democratic-majority House of Representatives, and he plans to introduce four bills in the coming days to help Philadelphians.
"The new Democratic House is starting to work right away for the people. We'll be passing bills to end the government shutdown and to restore voting rights and reform our democracy. And that's just on day one," Evans said.

Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-02) praised last night's Senate passage of the First Step Act, a criminal justice reform bill he strongly supported in the House.
Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-02) is reminding government agencies and organizations that Jan. 2 is the deadline to apply for Summer EBT projects to test innovative strategies for keeping children from going hungry during the summer.
"Grants ranging from $500,000 to $5 million will be available on a competitive basis. If your government agency or organization is interested in applying, now is the time to act," said Evans, who serves on the House Agriculture Committee and fought to protect anti-hunger programs in the new 5-year federal farm bill.

Trump has signed into law legislation introduced by U.S. Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and James Risch (R-ID), Chair of the Senate Small Business Committee and Congressman Dwight Evans (PA-02) aimed at helping small businesses safeguard their intellectual property with expanded education on obtaining and protecting patents. The Small Business Innovation Protection Act will build upon existing outreach programs run by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the U.S.
H.R. 6347, authored by Congressman Dwight Evans (Philadelphia and Montgomery County), cleared the House Small Business Committee last week, taking an important step toward final passage and enactment. If enacted, the measure would reduce burdens on lenders and small business borrowers participating in Small Business Administration's (SBA) 7(a) program. Under current rules, for loans over $250,000 secured by commercial real property, the lender or SBA must obtain an appraisal of the property being used as collateral.
