I'm happy to have some good news to share. Many of you have asked about loans to help the small businesses that are hurting due to the Covid-19 outbreak. The U.S. Small Business Administration has made low-interest loans available to small businesses and eligible nonprofits in Pennsylvania.
As communities across the country respond to the Covid-19 pandemic, I am announcing temporary changes to the operating procedures for my offices in Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia to ensure the safety of my staff and the public. |
I am reaching out to ensure you have the best available information to protect and care for yourself and your loved ones as we learn more about coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) considers the coronavirus to be a serious public health threat. It is important that you are aware of the disease and the efforts necessary to prevent its spread.
Symptoms
After the painful closure of Hahnemann University Hospital in North Philadelphia, I have increased my effort to keep our hospitals funded to serve Philadelphians who need health care. These institutions are also major employers and vital anchors in the neighborhoods they serve. This effort has taken on added urgency with the news of changes coming to Mercy Hospital in West Philadelphia.
Last week, I voted for legislation that would sharply limit President Trump's ability to use military force against Iran without first securing congressional approval.

I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you that the open enrollment period for individuals and families buying their own health insurance plans in Pennsylvania runs through this Sunday, December 15, 2019. Any change you make during this period will affect your coverage for 2020, starting on January 1.
I'll soon be holding another telephone town hall to hear from the people I represent in Philadelphia and to answer questions you may have about what's going on in Washington with issues like impeachment, gun reform legislation, prescription drug bills and more.
The town hall will take place from 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14.
The Congressional App Challenge is now open to middle and high school students in Philadelphia and across the country. Students participating must submit their app source code by the Friday, November 1, 2019 deadline.
Students are encouraged to use their creativity to inspire new apps for mobile, tablet or computer devices in the Congressional Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Academic Challenge.
